Good gardening tools are essential if you want to reap rewards from time invested in your garden. You may get away with the bare minimum for a season or so but, if you’re serious about what you’re doing, you will need to invest in a reliable tool kit. Good gardening tools should last you a lifetime. The tools my grandfather used proof it! Along the way, a tool may get lost or wear out and need replacing, like a constantly sharpened pruning knife but, with care, your gardening tools should last as long as you do. If you don't have any "second-hand" tools, you will have to consider buying new ones.
There’s no sense in buying cheap tools. Low price tools will inevitably cost you more in the end. By far the best strategy is to buy only the best, collecting them slowly, adding to your kit as the need arises and your pocket permits. Equally important, is the way you care for your tools. Regular and thorough cleaning with the right equipment will ensure your tools last longer, work well and are a pleasure to work with.
Carefully selected for their traditional designs and manufacturing techniques, with the look and feel of the originals and a quality of materials and craftsmanship that is unsurpassed, the gardening tools and care products in the City Gardens® Collection reflect this philosophy.

The Forge that has been making these quality handtools since 1770 in the north of England is still run by the same family today and prides itself on continuing the pledge of the founder: to deliver the highest quality.

The ‘Heirloom’ range has been designed using original drawings and illustrations from the company’s archives from the 1890s, when the Forge’s tools were popular amongst head gardeners of Britain’s country houses and stately homes. The ‘Heirloom’ tools, although new, are produced using the same, traditional, processes and have the same look and feel as the originals.

All tool heads have a brightened stainless steel finish; the digging tools have period solid Box D handles and the cultivating tools have Victorian long ash handles. The final detail is the label, a replica of that used over 100 years ago.
